I will be posting a series of blog entries on government and community programs that assist homeowners with home repairs. Check back for additional posts on this subject!
The USDA Rural Development Office offers home repair loans and grants to low income homeowners in rural areas. They can provide up to $20,000 in financing at a 1% interest rate to improve or modernize rural homes. Grants are also available to homeowners over the age of 62 based on specific income criteria.
Examples of eligible home improvements include:
- installation or repair of sanitary water and waste systems
- energy conservation measures, including window and door installation
- repair or replacement of heating systems, electrical wiring, roofs etc.
- remodel of the home to become accessible to persons with disabilities
For more information on this program contact the Marietta USDA Rural Development office at 740-373-7113 or visit their website at: www.rurdev.udsa.gov/oh/
