So I've never been much of a blogger or really even one to write about me or my adventures, but I figured since I have the option now I am going to take the opportunity to try and find out what blogging is all about!
I've finally started really getting into Southeast Ohio the past couple weeks and seeing the types of things I will be doing over the next year during my term as an AmeriCorps*VISTA. And let me tell you now...I'm really excited! Last Friday (July 16) I was in the office most of the day, but it was such a productive and educational day that I needed to share it with someone! Friday started off like any other day with dreading the commute into downtown Columbus at 8:00am. By the time 10:00 rolled around I had done more in those two hours than I felt I had in two weeks! I had made phone calls, received phone calls, filled my planner to the max, and almost finished the resource guides available here on the blog! It was such an empowering morning! And it did not stop there! That great feeling of getting something done that I wasn't sure I could get done in one day continued on through the afternoon, so much as I missed lunch without realizing it. I scheduled trainings for three counties (Coshocton, Jefferson, and Harrison), which I will put on our training schedule for anyone interested! I spoke with so many people my head was swimming! That afternoon I learned how to make a Google spreadsheet and then transfer it to the blog(a great accomplishment for someone who loves spreadsheets!). And just when I thought my day wasn't going to get any better! Thanks Suzanna! I left the office that day feeling so great about my decision to become a VISTA and about making my transition into corporate America.
I've had similar success this week so far. Monday I observed my second training in Washington County and although it was a long day of watching someone else present I learned so much and took so many notes that I feel very confident for my first training on August 12th! Hopefully that confidence can last from now until then! Tuesday I made and received phone calls, worked on the blog resources, sat in on a webinar being lead by Jessica May, and travelled to Coshocton Public Library...all in one day! The fact that all those things happened at the beginning of the week makes me feel confident that the rest of the week will continue with the same momentum because now it's just a down hill coast to Friday. As for the momentum to continue on through my year as a VISTA I hope I can keep up the steam!
Well I think for never blogging before I could really get into this! Now if I can just remember to actually sit down and tell about my adventures! More to come soon as Jessica May and I have many adventures planned for the coming weeks!
